There is more than one way to accomplish a task in PowerPoint 2003 (use a menu, right-click, shortcut key, click on a button).  This guide shows you one way to get each task done.  For this slideshow, we will NOT be using the Automatically After or the Apply to All Slides features.

Slide Design:

    1. Click on the slide on the left side bar to select which slide you want to put a design on.  Click on the Design button.  Select a slide design.
    2. If you want to change the Color Scheme, in the Slide Design bar on the right, click on Color Scheme and select.

Slide Transition:

    1. Click on the Slideshow menu at the top, and select Slide Transition
    2. Select which transition you want.
    3. Do NOT modify any of the other transition items because we want it to stay “fast” and “on mouse click”.
    4. Do NOT click on Apply to All Slides button.

Insert Clip Art:insert clipart

    1. Click on either the Insert Clip Art icon on the bottom task bar, or the Insert Clip Art icon inside the content box.
    2. Insert a word in the search box.  Do NOT search for many words because it will not find it if it is complicated.
    3. After Search in:, click on the pull down arrow  and check the Everywhere box.
    4. After Results should be:, click on the pull down arrow and select which types of clip art you want (for example “photographs” or “movies”, or you can check the box All media types)
    5. Click on the Go or Search button.  Be patient!
    6. Click on the picture you want only once and be patient! If you click many times, it will insert several pictures that you will have to delete.

Animation Scheme: (one scheme for entire slide)

    1. Click on the Slideshow menu at the top and select Animation Schemes.  Select an animation scheme from the side bar at the right.  Scroll down the the bottom if you want an exciting one.
    2. Do NOT click on Apply to All Slides button.

Custom Animation: (Each item on slide has its own animation)

    1. Click on one of the items on the slide to select it (either a text box or a picture)
    2. Click on the Slideshow menu at the top and select Custom Animation.
    3. Click on the Add Effect button.
    4. Select Entrance, then select which animation you want for that item.
    5. Change On Click to After Previous.
    6. To do another item:  Click on a different item on the slide.  Repeat steps 3 through 5 above.

Spellcheck

    1. Click on the Tools menu at the top and select Spelling.
    2. If it comes to a name that is not in the dictionary, click on Ignore.
    3. If it comes to a word that is spelled wrong and it is giving you the correct spelling, select change.
    4. If it comes to a word and you correct it yourself manually, click on Resume to keep spell checking the rest of the document
